The regency of Gianyar is the nearest regency to the regency of Badung where Denpasar belongs to. And the town of Gianyar has the same name with the name of its regency. It is not a big regency and has territorial land area of 368 sq kilometers and populated by 470.380 number of people according to the latest census which undertaken in 2010.
Though Gianyar is not big but in term of its history, it is an area in Bali where most of Balinese ancient remains in the form of physical evident like statues, temples, etc are mostly discovered in Bali. Those ancient remains, such as Goa Gajah, Gunung Kawi, Tirtha Empul and others can still be seen today even some are included the tour programs to visit when you go on, for example, tours to Kintamani or Besakih.
And no one can deny that this regency of Gianyar is the factory of artistic creativities where most of arts and handicrafts are made and the homes of famous Balinese dancers and traditional musicians. The village of Batubulan, Celuk, Mas, Ubud, and others famous villages are all located in here.
